Captain Frank Emory Vann
Carrabelle, Florida
I was born and raised in South Georgia, and grew up fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. I have spent my life learning about fishing in this area. It is definitely a true passion. I first started fishing on the flats of St. Marks, Fl with my father and best friend John Bryan. We would wake up before day and drive our 196 Key West from Georgia to St. Marks. After fishing until sunset, we would return and clean our catch from the day. When I turned ten, I asked for a kayak for for my birthday, as well as my best friend. On our kayaks we would fish all day long. In 2012 my parents bought a beach house on Live Oak Island and we had started spending every free weekend, day off of school, and our summers fishing the coast. I was able to learn the area like the back of my hand and find fishing holes and hotspots. Throughout those years my father taught me how to run a boat, and I became competent to take it out on my own. In 2018 when category 5 Hurricane Michael hit the Gulf of Mexico, I had to readjust my fishing because of the devastation. I started to fish out of Carrabelle at that point. The first boat that I fished out of in Carrabelle was a 24ft Key West. I began to learn the holes and hotspots of Carrabelle that summer. I have played sports all my life so I had to work my summer fishing schedule around football weight training and practices, as well as baseball during the spring. As a kid on the football team, you could always bet on friends that wanted to fish. I enjoyed taking my friends out during the summer. Last summer I was fishing out of a 26ft Sportsman. I had to make a decision about wether I wanted to play college football or did I want to stay home on my family farm. I shortly figured out that I wanted to stay home to take classes at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, as well as pursue my Captains License. After lots of time spent studying, taking classes at Sea School, and help from family and friends, I have received my License.
